Creating a SAFER CQ by facilitating Driver Education

About Us

Education is key to reducing trauma

Creating a Safer CQ

Our mission is to deliver low risk defensive driver awareness programs to the Community in Central Queensland.

We are passionate in spreading the message of safer driving techniques out into the Community, by facilitating Driver Education Programs in CQ. We believe it is possible to become a safer, more aware driver by knowing, understanding and applying the key principles of low risk, defensive driving.

Thanks to generous funding from the Australian Government, The Gladstone Regional Council and the Calliope & District Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, we were able to establish the CQ Benaraby Centre home to the Benaraby Driver Education Facility.

A joint collaboration with Roadcraft Driver Education will see a range of Driver Training Programs brought to Central Queensland with Roadcraft Educators providing the technical expertise for the courses.

Partnering with Roadcraft

Roadcraft has been providing industry-leading education to road users of all ages for over 41 years and their highest priorities are to educate road users in how to develop advanced observation techniques by using their vision more effectively, and how to avoid being involved in potentially dangerous traffic situations by managing their time and space.

The joint Vision of Roadcraft Driver Education and the Benaraby Driver Education Facility is to extend through Driver Education Programs the message that it is possible to become a safer, more attentive driver by knowing, understanding and applying the key principles of low risk, defensive driving.

This superb initiative will provide long term benefits for all of us in the Community and is a truly proactive step in helping to reduce road trauma.

Please email our Community Engagement Officer, Andrea at [email protected] for dates of the specific course/s you are interested in.

Ideally a Learner Driver would have 30 logbook hours before taking a Learner Driver Awareness. The reason for this is so that Learner Drivers already have basic knowledge of how to drive a car and so can focus on the techniques that we can teach them to become a safer more aware driver.

Some practical driving time in course go towards log book hours.

Time spent driving at BDEF provides the driver with the opportunity to experience a variety of road conditions in a simulated and safe environment but does not count towards logbook hours as it is off a public road.

However there is a shorter period of time during the course spent in a dual controlled car on public roads and this does count towards logbook hours

Payment for courses is by EFT. At this time we are unable to accept credit card payments.

Alternatively why not purchase a Gift Card to give to your friend or loved one. This can be used with a 12 month period for the selected course

Booking a course is a straightforward process.
